Getting Started - Choosing The Right Domain (2 of 2)

July 1, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Good Morning,

Have you been following along with my post(s)?  Let me know if you have received any useful ideas from them.  I plan to start several case studies in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned!  In any case let’s wrap up the post on Choosing the Right Domain Name:

Most people use ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ for such filtering purposes in their domain names. You get a good domain name, and you also get it indexed because the search engines will simply ignore such buffer words. Use numbers at the end of the phrase. Any number like 80 or anything else will do. There are some ideas to use if you get everything else but not the .com ending too. Read on.

Sometimes the keyword is so popular that it does not make much difference if you have a .com or something else. Some such popular examples are .org, .net and even .biz. If you don’t see any difference that an international or local website will do for you, you can also select for a nation or state specific extension. As an example, think what would be better for you – to be number 4 in Britain’s Google or to be number 40 in American Google? It is not quite difficult to choose a domain name that will be good for both your users as well as the search engines.

The keyword tool will influence 90% of the success of your domain name; the rest will depend on how innovative and creative you are. When you find nothing helps you in getting the domain name of your choice, changing the extension always works.
